Battery Disassembly Technician, Energy Storage
Description:
- Perform safe, controlled disassembly of EV and energy storage battery packs down to the module and component level.
- Execute high-voltage isolation, verification, and handling procedures in accordance with LOTO and PPE requirements.
- Sort, classify, and route battery components for reuse, recycling, or disposal following environmental and production guidelines.
- Operate in a high-throughput production environment while meeting performance targets and maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic equipment to support disassembly, inspection, and basic troubleshooting.
- Safely handle, transport, and lift large-format battery systems using forklifts, cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support continuous improvement, workspace organization, and compliance with quality and EHS standards.
- Support field operations as needed for battery system decommissioning, including on-site disassembly and material recovery.
Requirements:
- Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and strict safety standards.
- Must comply with high-voltage safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements.
- Must meet all requirements for use of a full-face respirator, including medical clearance and fit testing, per OSHA and company standards.
- Working knowledge of mechanical fastening systems, electrical connections, and component-level disassembly techniques.
- Prior rigging and heavy material handling experience is strongly preferred; training and certification may be provided for candidates with foundational mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment and mechanical lifts; training will be provided.
- Ability to travel up to 10% for field operations and battery system decommissioning.
- Participation in internal and external training programs such as LOTO, lifting/rigging, and high-voltage battery basics.
