Visiting Faculty – Fashion Design Department (71103) EG

The Fashion Design department at Pratt Institute, located in Brooklyn, NY, is creating a pool of applicants to join our part-time faculty community.<br><br>At Pratt, we define fashion practice as cultural messaging through clothes. Students contextualize fashion within a social framework and through rigorous attention to production, craft, and contemporary aesthetics.<br><br>Devoted to a creative learning community, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches and experiences. We aspire to continue to grow as a place that always welcomes and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to contribute to and be part of the Pratt community.<br><br><br><ul><li>Teach part-time courses in the Fashion Design department, focusing on fashion as cultural messaging through production, craft, and contemporary aesthetics, while fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.</li><li>Leverage expertise in areas such as sustainability, non-western fashion perspectives, digital storytelling, or fashion technology, to engage students in critical and innovative approaches to fashion design.</li></ul>Candidate’s professional or scholarly focus may include a broad set of interests within the field including design, textiles, and knitwear. We encourage applicants with experience and knowledge in the following areas of expertise:<ul><li>Historical and critical perspectives on contemporary fashion design</li><li>Non-western perspectives on fashion design</li><li>Sustainability, materials and circular design practices</li><li>Digital storytelling, networked design, augmented/virtual reality and CLO3D</li><li>Technology, culture and fashion media</li></ul><strong style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">Salary </strong><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from </span><strong style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">$1800/per contact hour.</strong><ul><li>Review of applications to begin immediately and remain open until filled.</li><li>To apply, please submit your c.v., cover letter, and 10 examples of syllabi and/or student work and/or professional projects that reflect your pedagogical and professional practice.</li></ul><strong>**Professional references will be requested later in the interview process.
