<strong>Quality Technician / Compounder<br><br></strong><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong>The Quality Technician / Compounder produces paint and related products by setting up, operating, and tending mixing and blending equipment for chemicals, liquids, color pigments, and other materials. This role ensures batches meet strict quality standards through in-process inspections, accurate documentation, and adherence to batch cards and procedures. The position combines hands-on mixing and compounding with quality control responsibilities in a fast-paced production environment.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Set up, operate, and tend machines and equipment used to mix or blend materials such as chemicals, liquids, color pigments, and rust-proofing components to produce paint and related products.</li><li>Follow batch cards precisely, including weighing, measuring, and adding ingredients in the correct sequence and quantities to achieve the required product specifications.</li><li>Document all production results accurately, including batch data, process parameters, and any adjustments made during mixing or compounding.</li><li>Make equipment adjustments during production to maintain proper mixing conditions and product consistency.</li><li>Assist with equipment changeovers between batches, including cleaning, setup, and configuration to meet new batch requirements.</li><li>Complete production audits and process improvement sheets to support continuous improvement and operational efficiency.</li><li>Calculate material and batch yield statistics to monitor efficiency and identify variances or issues in the production process.</li><li>Perform in-process inspections of batches to verify that batch cards are being followed and that quality specifications are met.</li><li>Certify that batches meet required quality standards before release, documenting inspection results and any corrective actions taken.</li><li>Check raw materials and inspect components for flaws, defects, or nonconformance before and during production.</li><li>Inspect equipment to ensure compliance with batch cards and production procedures, and report any deviations or mechanical issues.</li><li>Comply with all procedures, rules, and regulations related to safety, quality, and production processes.</li><li>Complete daily and shift clean-up task lists, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.</li><li>Communicate safety concerns, processing issues, and quality deviations promptly to supervisors and appropriate coworkers.</li><li>Work effectively under time pressure, meeting strict production deadlines and throughput requirements.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Essential Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Hands-on experience in mixing, compounding, or batching materials in a production or manufacturing environment.</li><li>Quality control and quality assurance experience, including in-process inspection, documentation, and certification of batches.</li><li>Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the ability to follow standardized procedures and batch instructions.</li><li>English language proficiency, including strong understanding of grammar, spelling, and written and verbal communication to read and complete batch cards and documentation accurately.</li><li>Knowledge of production and processing, including raw materials, production processes, quality control methods, costs, and techniques for effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.</li><li>Knowledge of chemistry, including chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, as well as chemical processes, transformations, interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.</li><li>Ability to perform basic calculations for material usage, batch yields, and production statistics.</li><li>Ability to work safely with chemicals and production equipment while following all safety rules and guidelines.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Additional Skills & Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience working in paint, coatings, or chemical manufacturing is beneficial.</li><li>Familiarity with process improvement documentation and participation in continuous improvement initiatives is an advantage.</li><li>Strong attention to detail and accuracy in following instructions and completing documentation.</li><li>Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers in a production setting.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Work Environment<br><br></strong>This role operates in a production facility focused on protective paints and coatings for home and industrial applications. The position follows a 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM shift from Monday to Thursday, with mandatory overtime every other Friday. The work requires wearing common protective and safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats 100% of the time. The environment involves frequent exposure to contaminants such as pollutants, gases, dust, or odors approximately 90% of the time. The job is physically demanding and requires standing for about 90% of the shift. Work is performed under significant time pressure, with strict production deadlines approximately 85% of the time. The facility uses industrial mixing and blending equipment, and employees are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and dress requirements appropriate for a chemical manufacturing environment.<br><br><strong>Job Type & Location<br><br></strong>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn Park, MN.<br><br><strong>Pay And Benefits<br><br></strong>The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.<br><br><strong>Requirements<br><br></strong>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
