Part-Time Faculty - Interior Design

The Interior Design department at Pratt Institute is calling for applications of candidates to join our part-time teaching faculty for the 25/26 academic year, starting with Fall 2026.<br><br>The BFA and MFA Interior Design programs at Pratt prepare students to engage in critical inquiry of occupied space through theoretical and applied research, establishing them as innovators and leaders in the field of interior design. The curriculum addresses emerging and innovative technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainable practices, and issues of ethical and social responsibility which point to the larger potentials of professional practice, design education, and our evolving understanding of the built environment.<br><br>Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches and experiences. We Encourage Applicants With Expertise In The Following Areas<br><br><ul><li>EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES</li><li>CONSTRUCTION: all aspects of the constructed environment.</li><li>SUSTAINABLE DESIGN SYSTEMS/PROCESSES MATERIALS</li><li>COLOR MATERIALS</li><li>LIGHTING</li><li>DESIGN STUDIOS: introductory, practice based, and theoretical studios.</li><li>INTERDISCIPLINARY AND COLLABORATIVE DESIGN</li><li>COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT | SOCIAL JUSTICE</li><li>HISTORY | THEORY | RESEARCH</li><li>DIGITAL/ANALOG 2D 3D REPRESENTATION</li><li>OTHER SPECIALIZED FIELDS OF DEPARTMENTAL INTEREST<br><br><br><br></li></ul><ul><li>Teach part-time courses in the BFA and MFA Interior Design programs, focusing on areas such as emerging technologies, sustainable design systems, or interdisciplinary collaboration, while fostering innovation and leadership in interior design practice.</li><li>Utilize intercultural competence and strong interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse student body, promoting inclusive learning environments that address ethical and social responsibility in the built environment.<br><br></li></ul> <strong>Education:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Applicants are required to have a degree in Interior Design, Architecture, related fields or equivalent experience in practice.</li><li>Previous post-secondary teaching experience is preferred but not required.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Skills:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills.</li><li>A demonstrated level of intercultural competence.</li><li>Ability to work well with diverse populations.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Salary</strong> is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from <strong>$1,800 - $2,214</strong> per contact hour.,<br><br><ul><li>Your complete CV</li><li>A cover letter indicating a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 areas of expertise (required -see above job description)</li><li>A link to a portfolio of your work (and work of your students if you have prior teaching experience)<br><br></li></ul><strong>**Professional references will be requested later in the interview process.
