Job Purpose: The Lucas County Juvenile Court CASA Department is seeking a highly motivated professional to develop and implement a marketing/communications plan for purposes of volunteer recruitment for the CASA Department. This individual will formulate and coordinate the internal and external communications, marketing, and community relations activities for the CASA Department and will be required to develop and maintain community relationships through management of social media, in person and online meetings, public service campaigns, special events, networking, media contacts, and volunteer recruitment. The Coordinator shall also communicate and coordinate regularly with the Court’s Communications Director. All activities and aspects of the CASA Department’s marketing/communications plan and regular marketing/communications activities are to be reviewed and approved by the CASA Director and the Court Administrator. The plan is to be developed in coordination with and incorporated into the Court’s official communications plan. This person must bring a passion and expertise in digital/online engagement, social media platforms, and event planning.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education/Training: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field preferred.

Experience/Knowledge/Background: At least three (3) years relevant work experience required; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Training as a guardian ad litem and/or prior experience in the juvenile justice system and/or child welfare systems is preferred but not required.

Skills: The successful candidate will be goal-oriented and highly motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team-based environment, possess strong written and communication skills, and be adept at public speaking. He or she must demonstrate a genuine concern for the abused and neglected children in our community and the volunteers who choose to serve them. This person must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and possess excellent organizational skills. This individual must also be able to successfully serve as a liaison between the CASA/GAL program and the community. Possessing extensive community contacts experience is a plus. Computer experience and knowledge required in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and social media platforms are required. Must be competent in using online video conferencing solutions for communication, meetings, and trainings (Zoom, Teams, etc…).

Appearance/Personality: Courtesy and a professional business demeanor and presentation are critical. Due to the personally sensitive nature of information in this office, confidentiality is essential. Must have the ability to work well with a diverse group of people.

Special Requirements: Must have completed CASA/GAL Volunteer Training or be able to complete within six (6) months of hire. Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age; have a valid driver’s license; and submit to a pre-employment screening including a criminal record check and in-depth reference check. Must be able to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision while meeting established deadlines.

§ Works flexible hours required for social media management and including periodic evenings and occasional weekends.

§ Writes, implements, and directs a goal-oriented CASA marketing, recruitment, and communications plan that will include the planning and implementation of strategies designed to enhance recruitment of CASA volunteers.

§ Serves as a recruiter for CASA Guardian ad Litem volunteer advocates and attorneys/Guardians ad Litem through marketing/communications endeavors.

§ Develops and implements CASA’s social media strategy including creating and updating social media posting schedules, replying to comments from subscribers or liking tagged photos and coordinating with other professionals to determine how to market the CASA brand using social media (in conjunction with the Court’s communications plan and parameters).

§ Monitors online activity and follows established CASA and Court guidelines and best-practice rules.

§ Encourages greater social media participation among staff, Advisory Board members, and CASA/GAL.

§ Identifies opportunities to positively influence the public perception of CASA.

§ Holds CASA Public Information Meetings and may publicly speak at businesses, media sources, places of worship, community clubs, organizations, events, or promotions, as required or directed by the CASA Director and as approved by the Court Administrator.

§ Is designated as the media contact for the CASA Department and may act as the CASA Department spokesperson as directed and approved by the CASA Director and Court Administrator. Please note, that the Court Administrator is designated as the media spokesperson for the Court as per Employee Handbook Policy 2-15.

§ Designs, prepares, and schedules advertisements as needed for all platforms including newspaper, social media, radio advertisement, television, and digital as approved and directed by the CASA Director and Court Administrator

§ Establishes and maintains strong and productive relationships (networks) with diverse media providers, community leaders, business leaders, religious leaders, organizations, and clubs to build relationships advantageous to CASA and to recruiting new CASA volunteers.

§ Updates and maintains the CASA website.

§ Monitors the National CASA/GAL Association’s and the Ohio CASA Association’s websites and key Ohio and national CASA programs, websites and social media posts for information, ideas, and training opportunities.

§ Assists with the CASA Courage Awards event, lunch and learn workshops, Holiday Volunteer Party, and other events as needed or directed.

§ Coordinates departmental activities pertinent to job description.

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Attends mandatory staff meetings and trainings as required.

§ Provides assistance/back up coverage to other personnel as needed/requested.

§ May be required to supervise a group of CASA volunteers including monitoring volunteers and providing them with appropriate information and/or direction.

§ May be required to work irregular hours.

§ All other duties as assigned.

Language Skills:§ Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference, grant, descriptive and statistical data and information such as financial statements, technical operating manuals, journal studies, statutes, procedures, guidelines and routine and non-routine correspondence. § Ability to respond to inquiries from the public, volunteers, Court staff, outside agencies, professionals, and others as required. § Ability to prepare and present information in both oral and written forms. Ability to effectively present information to public officials, private and public groups and others.

§ Must write legibly.

Mathematical Skills:§ Requires the ability to perform basic arithmetic, including the ability to calculate percentages and decimals.§ May require the ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions and compute discounts.
